If we go east from Krk, we will arrive to the source of Croatian literacy - Baška.

It was in the small church in Jurandvor where the most important Croatian proof of literacy was found - Bašćanska ploča. It is the stone plate from around the year 1100 mentioning the name of king Zvonimir from the 11th century in the Slavic Glagolitic script. The Glagolitic script developed in the 9th

century and is based on Greek minuscules. This sizable monument, both in size and importance, is being kept in Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb, and Jurandvor displays its copy.

In Baška you can also see Roman mosaics and a very rare silver cross belonging to Frankopan family, as well as many art pieces. In the nearby bay of Vela Luka, there are remains of the fortified town which, according to legend, is called Corinthia and is related to Greek tradition.
